From One Press To Two Dozen: The History Of World Class Plastics

October 9, 2024

World Class Plastics, Inc. has come a long way from our humble beginnings in the 90s, expanding from a small, one-press shop to our present day facility housing nearly thirty presses in 85,000 square feet of manufacturing space. We’re proud to be one of the best plastic manufacturing companies in Ohio, and of all the milestones that we’ve achieved thanks to the amazing dedication of our team.

Laying the Foundation

World Class Plastics, Inc. (WCPI) was founded by Steve Buchenroth, Scott Wisniewski, and Neil Schroer in July of 1994, who started with a single press and a 5,000 square foot warehouse in Lakeview, OH. The company would expand greatly throughout the next few years, moving to a new 32,000 sq. ft facility in Russells Point,OH and adding more equipment, including 19 new presses and Yushin Netliners for automated part handling. After helping Steve and Scott build the company, Neil Shroer retired in 1998.

Expanding Our Roots

In the early 2000s, World Class Plastics used this early foundation to grow exponentially as a company. We established a full-time Sales department in 2000, as well as added in-house tooling design, build, and repair capabilities. By 2001, we had implemented a Powershop ERP system and expanded the Sales & Engineering departments at our new facility. Just a couple of years before we celebrated our 10th anniversary, World Class Plastics became QS-9000 certified, and has continued to stay current with ISO-9001 compliance to the present.

2004 was a big year for us, not just because it was our 10 year anniversary–we also added capabilities for in-house, automated assemblies and started production out of a small facility in Rome, GA. By early 2005, the plant out in Georgia had earned its ISO 9000 certification for quality management, keeping up with our home base in Ohio. In the following years, we added over 25,000 square feet of space to the Russells Point building and installed two large tonnage machines and the first 6-axis robot from Motoman in our facility. Though the plant in Rome, GA closed in 2009, this closure allowed us to focus more on improving our facility in Ohio. Between 2011 and 2018, we would expand our maintenance and tooling facilities, install two all-electric 350 metric ton injection molding machines, completing our present-day fleet of 28 injection molding presses.

In 2022 we completed our last expansion adding 22,000 square feet of Manufacturing space and 2 additional overhead cranes. This completed our 85,000 square foot manufacturing facility that we produce from today.

A History of Proven Excellence

Throughout our time in business, WCPI’s dedication to our customers and to quality earned us several awards for supplier performance and quality. We are a regular recipient of Nifco America Corp Supplier Performance Reward, and a multi-year recipient of the Certified Supplier and Technical Achievement Awards held by Worthington Cylinders. We’ve also been recognized by several other major companies for our expertise in injection molding and our consistent and reliable customer service as a supplier of custom plastic components.
