The Challenge

World Class Plastics partnered with Worthington Industries to address significant production challenges for a critical valve component for their tanks division. Worthington’s tanks division had been experiencing issues with part quality and frequent failures from previous suppliers, which jeopardized their valve assembly process. The stakes were high, as each cylinder could contain up to $400 worth of product.

Worthington needed a reliable partner to manufacture plastic valve components that could meet stringent quality and performance standards. Key challenges included ensuring the parts were flash-free, held tight tolerances, and remained concentric after being molded to promote reliable fit and function. The parts also needed to be able to withstand extreme torque across a range of temperatures.

A key part of our process involved implementing Cavity Pressure Technology to monitor and trigger the injection molding process, ensuring consistent, high-quality across parts, even with changes in material lot numbers and typical material fluctuations. We also implemented in-process testing and inspections, including destructive testing, visual inspection, and dimensional documentation, to ensure every component we delivered met the required specifications.

Results and Impact

We began manufacturing over 1,000,000 units per month as an ongoing supplier, delivering parts on a consistent schedule directly to their location in Worthington, Ohio.
